Waiting Times

Patients are always treated on the basis of their clinical need, with the most urgent seen and treated first.

Patients with the same clinical need will be treated in chronological order on grounds of fairness, and to minimise the waiting time for all patients.

The waiting times listed below are for routine appointments, by specialty in alphabetical order.

Where possible lists are “pooled” and patients will be given the next available appointment with a consultant in that specialty.

Waiting times will be longer for some consultants if:

  • They are experts in sub-specialties which few consultants can treat
  • Patients are choosing to wait to see a named consultant for personal reasons (e.g. a female consultant)
