Translation and Interpreting Services

Help for patients who do not speak or read English

Mayday believes everyone should have equal access to health services, and that includes Croydon residents with language needs. The NHS in Croydon provides comprehensive and professional interpreting services either over the telephone or in person, including British Sign Language. These services are managed by Croydon NHS Advocacy and Interpreting Services.

All Croydon’s health providers, including hospital staff, can access interpreters for patients who do not speak or understand English very well. If you or members of your family or a friend need this service please let staff know and they will be able to make the necessary arrangements.

Interpreting through NHS Direct

NHS Direct on 0845 4647 can provide telephone interpreters in many languages within minutes of a call.  Non English speaking callers only need to say the language they speak and NHS Direct will get an interpreter to the line.
