What we do
We provide a blood testing service for patients who have been referred by their GP consultant or other clinician.
Blood tests for out-patients are usually booked through your local GP surgery.
Only patients from certain GP practices will receive their test at Mayday.

Where we are
The Blood Test department at Mayday is situated on the first floor of The
The department operates a ticket system. As patients arrive, they take a ticket and wait for the number on their ticket to be announced.
There is an early morning appointment system available for fasting patients between 7 – 8am, however because diabetic patients need to eat regularly in order to maintain their blood sugar levels we give priority to these people.
Information for diabetic patients
- If you are a diabetic patient on insulin, have the fasting blood test and then take your morning insulin with breakfast.
- If you are taking oral hypoglycaemic agents, have your blood test and then take them with breakfast.
- All diabetic patients should carry their blood glucose meter in case of emergency

Children under 12yrs
If your child is under 12 years old and requires a blood test, please contact The Willows Paediatric Out-Patient department on 020 8401 3177, between and Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays).
Children over 12yrs
If your child is over 12 years but has never had a blood test before, please contact The Willows paediatric Out-Patient Department by contacting 020 8401 3177, between 8.30am and 4pm Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays).
If your child is over 12 years and familiar with the blood test procedure they can be seen in the adult phlebotomy department which is situated on the first floor of the London Wing at Mayday at the phlebotomist’s discretion. Any child who is distressed or unwilling will be asked to make an appointment in The Willows Paediatric Out-Patient department.
Children Under 16yrs
All children under the age of 16 requiring a blood test MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Glucose Tolerance Tests
Glucose Tolerance tests are not performed in the blood test department. If your GP or hospital consultant has requested one of these an appointment will be made for you and a letter will be sent out in the post advising you of the appointment date and time.
